1975 HARDIE FERODO 1000
LIMITED EDITION OF 350 PIECES
Biante Model Cars are very pleased to present the 1:43 Scale Ford XB Falcon GT Hardtop driven by Allan Moffat and Ian Geoghegan in the 1975 Hardie Ferodo 1000.
After a miserable Bathurst assault with the much-hyped Brut 33 Falcon in 1974, Allan Moffat lined himself up for a big return to Mount Panorama in 1975 in the same car However by the time the 1975 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 rolled around, Moffat’s XB GT Falcon had received a stunning splash of red paint with gold stripes.
He enlisted his 1973 Bathurst-winning co-driver Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan to co-drive after a season where he’d only competed in a pair of Australian Touring Car Championship rounds given funds were short and he was no longer a factory-backed driver.
Things started well for the 1000-kilometre race when Moffat qualified second, only one-tenth off Colin Bond’s pole time in the Holden Dealer Team Torana L34. The big Ford diced for the lead early with Bond and Peter Brock’s privateer Torana but problems started to strike with the powerful Ford V8.
A gearbox oil leak caused a smoke trail and later a brake problem sent Geoghegan to the pits for almost six minutes before he returned to pit lane and took the car to the back of the pit area for a gearbox change. The team re-joined the race some 20-odd laps behind but the campaign came to an end with 109 of the 163 laps completed when Moffat pitted to retire with a broken control arm in the suspension.
Brock and co-driver Brian Sampson won the race in the Gown-Hindhaugh Torana, but Moffat would claim Ford’s ultimate revenge two years later.
Produced in high quality 1:43 Scale resin, this model features nicely replicated exterior lines and details, a nicely replicated livery, clear windows which highlight the racing interior detail and beautiful finishing. Coming in a clear acrylic display case, this is another model that 1:43 Scale Motor Racing Legends collector’s shouldn’t miss.
